Common Questions

I hit a mine and the field didn’t end. Is that a bug?

No — that is the whole idea. Striking a mine costs a point of nerve instead of ending the field. Classic Minesweeper sometimes forces you into a coin-flip late in a board; here a wrong guess spends a resource rather than throwing away everything you built. Run out of nerve and the lamp goes out.

Can my first tap be a mine?

Never. The mines are laid after your first tap and never within one square of it, so your opening move always opens a cascade.

How do I flag without long-pressing everything?

Tap the Flag button in the footer to turn on flag mode — then a tap flags and a long-press opens. Tap it again to switch back.

What does tapping an already-open number do?

If its mines are all flagged, it clears every remaining square around it in one move. That is the classic “chord”, and it is how you go fast.

Where did my run go?

Runs autosave after every move, on your device. If a run is missing, make sure the app wasn’t deleted and reinstalled — saves live only on the device itself.

Are there in-app purchases or ads?

No, and there never will be. You paid once; everything in the game is earned by playing.

Does the game need the internet?

No. Canary is fully offline. It makes no network connections at all.

How do paths and difficulties unlock?

By the deepest field you have ever reached, and by winning runs. The run setup screen shows each condition.
